KULTUR-RETUR

This book was released in September 2023, and it sums up much of what Nedland Kultur’s Sigbjørn Nedland has been working with throughout his whole life. The history of music, its basic importance to people and societies, how it has been spread and communicated across the planet, and how it has developed from ancient times until today.

  • This is a music book that does not resemble any music book that you have read before.
  • It gives you neither classical music theory nor nerdy dives into the trivia in the history  of an artist or a rock band.
  • The book contains two sentences about The Beatles and three about The Rolling Stones, but it tells you more than you ever knew about where their music is coming from, and why it came to be.
  • The book lets you join a caravan through the desert, it puts you on a slave ship crossing the Indian Ocean, and you will also find yourself on a Norwegian slave ship sailing across the Atlantic Ocean.
  • You will be there to observe the first world music jam sessions along the Silk Road a thousand years ago.
  • You will be invited to the world’s first ever rowdy pub right by the gates of Eden, and you will take part in a festival at the world’s first culture house 20.000 years ago.
  • You will be shown the development of the guitar on a journey from ancient Mesopotamia via Arabia and Andalucia to a packed blues club in Chicago, and to Sarpsborg, Norway where we find the winner of the competition of making the first commercially produced electric solid body guitar.
  • You will experience rock, reggae and rumba, you will listen to soul, salsa and samba, and you get the stories behind tango and calypso.
  • Music from 100.000 years of history, from all corners of the world.
